The competition is announced and organized by the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction as a foundation program overseen by the program council, in collaboration with the co-organizers of the competition—the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ČKAIT, and the Association of Building Entrepreneurs.

The main partners of this year’s 32nd edition include renowned companies such as BAUMIT, CEMEX, Wienerberger, EGOE, and the Czech Agency for Standardization.

Uniqueness of the Construction

This multifunctional sports hall in Slaný was implemented by Hupro, with the architectural design attributed to Ing. arch. Jiří Žák and co-author Ing. Michaela Vacková. The overall concept of the building combines modern design with efficient energy use.

The hall, divided into two parts, integrates a sports area with arched roofing and a two-story facility. From the outside, the hall features a distinctive grey-bronze facade made of galvanized corrugated sheets.

The state-of-the-art interior enables a wide range of sports activities, including futsal, floorball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, foot volleyball, and handball.

The facility also includes a small gymnasium for dance, exercise, or children’s activities. The main sports area provides seating capacity for 250 spectators, with an additional 50–60 standing places on the gallery.

The main playing area, measuring 44 x 25 meters, includes safety zones, locker rooms for athletes and referees, public restrooms, and a sports bar overlooking the playing field. On the first floor, there is an exercise hall (29 x 9 meters), a clubhouse, a kitchenette, and offices. The entire building is designed to be accessible, accommodating individuals with reduced mobility.

Energy Efficiency

The Building of the Year meets the requirements for low energy consumption.

Its energy efficiency is ensured by heat pumps and photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 55 kW, complemented by a battery storage system that covers up to a third of the hall’s energy needs.

This approach not only reduces operational costs but also promotes an eco-friendly approach to modern construction.

Project Significance

The sports hall in Slaný offers the local community a space for active leisure and enhances the city’s sports infrastructure. Ladislav Peška, chairman of the Slaný Sports Club, highlighted the well-thought-out internal layout of the hall, which has received great admiration from visitors.

Although the hall meets high standards for hosting sports events, the lack of accommodation facilities presents a challenge for further development. The club is already planning to address this issue and expand its visitor capacity.
